All normal, healthy bodies contain candida, which is a yeast that is harmless in small amounts. If the quantity of candida grows out of control, however, it can lead to yeast infections. The human body is also host to helpful bacteria which normally prevent an outbreak of candida. In a candida crisis, these good bacteria are outnumbered by the bad bacteria. This might be the result of a change in diet or the fallout from an illness or medication. In circumstances such as these, the normal candida can transform into a yeast infection which can make a person very uncomfortable and unhealthy. An effective way of controlling this problem, one that rules out the need for taking drugs, is for people to pay attention to what they eat.

Candida overgrowth is associated with many different symptoms. Diarrhea and constipation are some of the common digestive problems that yeast infections can cause. Skin irritation may also occur in forms such as eczema, psoriasis, and athlete’s foot. Of all the different manifestations of candida overgrowth, the infection that shows up in the genital region is the most well-known. This often leads to vaginitis and itching. A persistent sweet tooth is one of the lesser known symptoms of this infection. It is also possible to feel extremely tired, depressed, or moody.

A balanced diet is a good weapon against candidiasis. There are foods that are essential to fight candidiasis, while others encourage the spread of this infection.

Sugar should definitely be eliminated from the diet, as it is a breeding ground for this fungus. This mean any kind of sugar must go, including food that turns into sugar, sweeteners, and pure sugar. Foods like white rice, white flour, white bread, crackers, gluten, most grains, most white foods, and some fruits (because they are filled with natural sugars) should all be avoided.

Processed foods are on the no list also because they are changed from their original state so much that they contain few nutrients and often have sugar in them. In the case of meat, avoid sources that have been injected with antibiotics, responsible for the death of good bacteria that would otherwise be controlling candida growth.

There is also a wealth of food that can cure candida overgrowth. A candida cleansing diet includes organic meat and cultured dairy from animals and poultry that have not been treated with antibiotics. Veggies, berries, green apples, lemons, and small portions of brown rice are all great foods to eat to combat yeast infections. If the infection is not very severe, other fruits can also be included. If the case is extreme or chronic, however, it is better to eat fruit only in moderate quantities. Probiotics, live microorganisms that are beneficial to the body, are also effective in battling yeast infections. Probiotics can be found in Yakult, yogurt, miso, tempeh, and kefir.

There are many supplements on the market and in the average household cupboard that can battle yeast infections as well. Goldenseal, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and oregano oil are some examples. Spices that are highly fragrant, like cloves, coriander, curry, and cinnamon, should be included in meals as often as possible.

These supplements can be added to the food as it is being prepared or sprinkled on a dish afterward for flavor. They can also be taken in capsule form or as a tincture. Combination supplements developed to battle candida outbreaks are available in many health stores.

Once an infection begins, it can spread rapidly, causing immense damage to the body’s immune system. For that reason it is imperative to bring the growth of this fungus under control at the first signs of the infection. The proper diet will not just eliminate candidiasis and keep candida levels in check but will also provide a healthy boost to the body.
